about me

I am director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Zurich. I moved to Zurich from England in 2002 to build up the Cosmology and Astrophysics research group.  We try to understand the origin and evolution of the Universe and how stars, planets and galaxies form. Many of our calculations are carried out on supercomputers such as our in-house constructed zBox.

The ITP was host to Albert Einstein who obtained his PhD here in 1905 and Erwin Schroedinger (1921-1927) who developed the mathematical framework behind quantum mechanics in Zurich. We still don't understand quantum mechanics today…

I play guitar with the electro-rock crossover band Milk67 - listen to our music here. We just organised the 'Milk67 and Professor Moore’s Big Bang Truck' at the Zurich street parade!

It’s a busy year since I am currently writing a popular book on our place in the Universe for Swiss Publishing House Kein & Aber, in press this year.
